Are you interested in taking your podcast to the next level but not sure where to start? Here are 3 easy tips to upgrade your podcast.
UPGRADE YOUR COVER ART
Your audience will see your cover art on their device every time they play your show, and your potential audience will see it while they are searching for new podcasts. Take advantage of this opportunity to stand out and visually communicate what your show is about. If your cover art is lackluster, now is a great time to give it an upgrade. Here at StartAPod, we love designing cover art with free resources like Canva. Keep in mind, eye catching cover art plays a factor in how Apple Podcasts chooses shows to feature. It’s a win win!
UPGRADE YOUR WEBSITE
Your website should be your go-to hub for your audience to find out more information about you. But a good website does more than provide your contact info. It can actually be a tool for drawing in new listeners.
Google (the biggest search engine in the world), is designed to index text. When you do a Google search for a topic or question, your results will primarily be text, with some additional media results (such as YouTube videos). This means when someone is searching for a topic, they are most likely to find a written answer. What does this mean for you? This means that you should use your show notes as an opportunity to leverage text. Provide a thorough summary of what you discuss in your episode, and use keywords strategically. If you have guests, include their bio, headshot, and links to their social media. Use the opportunity to draw in new listeners, and don’t make the mistake of dismissing the importance of quality shownotes.
RETHINK YOUR INTRO AND OUTRO
Your podcast intro (sometimes referred to as your open) provides your listeners with the first impression of your show. You want your open to hook your listeners; give them a reason to keep listening. You also want to make sure all of the relevant information is included: what is your show name, who is the host, and what listeners can expect from your show. Ask yourself what you want your audience to associate with your podcast. Is it your jingle? A catch phrase you always say? Whatever it is, make sure it creates a good impression of your show and entices your audience to continue listening.
Your outro, or close, should contain a clear call to action. What exactly do you want your listeners to do? Do you want them to leave your show a review? Visit your website to check out your Ebook? Follow you on social media? Make sure that you think through which call to action makes the most sense and will serve you best, and then deliver your CTA in a polite and clear manner.
Remember, your podcast is constantly evolving. Take some time to evaluate if you are making the most of these elements, and if they are effectively working together to communicate your message. If they aren’t, it’s never too late to rethink and rework.
